Gong Bath Meditation is a practice that aids healing by synchronising our brain and restoring balance & harmony in our human system.
No, water is not involved in a Gong Bath Meditation.
Instead, you are bathed in the sounds and vibrations of gongs, & crystal bowls. It is a sound bath that creates profound relaxation.
Gong Bath Meditations alter brain wave patterns from the Beta (waking state) to Theta & Delta (meditative) states. Science teaches that meditative brain frequencies enable us to access our deeper subconscious and superconscious, which are key states for healing.
Sound healing is not a new fad. The gong is one of the oldest musical instruments in the world. Based on ancient wisdom, gongs vibrate at the same frequency as the body allowing the body to heal itself.
These ideas might sound kind of “woo-woo”, but Sound Energy Healing is a physical phenomenon based on universal physical and biological principles called Sonic entrainment, where rhythmic vibrations of similar frequencies resonate in unison.
The universal principles of sound mean you do not have to believe in Sound Energy Healing or understand it, to benefit from sessions. However, you might be like many people, and want to know what proof exists for energy healing.
Okay, here comes a little Science lesson.
The sounds during a gong bath can be used to rebalance our human system. There is a profound effect on our cardiovascular, autonomic, endocrine and immune systems. It is an excellent therapy for stress-related issues, such as depression and anxiety.
What to expect in a group Gong Bath session:
Ideally you will experience the gong bath lying comfortably on your back. You will need to bring along a blanket and a pillow.
All you have to do is lie comfortably and close your eyes and relax. I then begin by playing the gongs very softly, increasing the volume as the session progresses (the volume never gets unbearable as I am playing therapeutically). I change the playing technique frequently so there is no fixed rhythm which results in the brain not being able to follow and entrainment takes place. Entrainment is the changing of brainwave frequencies.
After a continuous 40 minutes of gong playing, I start to wind down and play very gently for five minutes fading away to nothing. I then spend a little time talking you back to awareness.
The gong is an amazing and powerful instrument for healing work; I recommend that you take it easy for the rest of the day to allow the treatment to continue to do its work. I also advise that you drink plenty of water.
